Meet Dionne

Hello!

My name is Dionne Sackiw, and I am a Registered Psychologist with 20 plus years of experience working with children, teens, adults and families. I am a proud member of the College of Alberta PsychologistsPsychologists’ Association of Alberta and Association for Play Therapy (a4pt.org). Throughout my career, I have had the pleasure of supporting a variety of people impacted by living with disabilities, mental health issues, experiences of trauma, grief, loss, divorce and relationship challenges. I have also worked within several school divisions supporting students, teachers and parents. I am also very passionate and an advocate for helping families with children and adults with disabilities. During my Master's program, I dedicated my thesis to exploring what parents experience when they raise children who are living with disabilities.

A few things you may not know about me: I am a proud Mom who loves using Google and someone who never stops noticing the smallest details and wondering about life. I love the outdoors, because being in nature and exploring brings me a great sense of peace. When I’m not busy cooking noodles for the kids (consistent dish in our house), I am an aspiring chef, lover of arts and a pretty good gardener (or at least I like to think so!) To me, volunteering, offering a good deed to someone in need or rescuing an exhausted bee on my patio helps restore good karma in the world.

My experience and interest in children has driven me to open up a much-needed specialized counselling practice specifically for children in this region of Alberta. I have professional training in play therapy and am a Registered Play Therapist (A4PT).
